How Solar Works

In 5 simple points, we explain how the sun’s energy is converted to the electricity that powers the lights and appliances in your home…

1

The solar panels on your roof convert light energy from the sun to D.C. voltage.

2

The solar inverter then converts D.C. voltage to usable AC mains voltage.

3

This clean renewable AC voltage is then fed into your household electrical system usually via your switchboard.

4

If you have appliances running, like washing machines, dryers, pool pumps, lights, TV’s, heaters while your solar panels are producing power, these appliances use the solar energy first.

5

If your solar system is producing more electricity than you are consuming, the excess power is fed back into the street electricity network and measured by your electricity meter. Some electricity retailers will pay you up to 8 cents per kilowatt hour for the electricity you export.
